I've been passionate about wildlife since childhood but I didn't take my first wildlife picture until I was 11 when my dad bought me my first camera. My early attempts were pretty awful of course but I was hooked.
My photography has taken me to many exciting parts of the world, including the rainforests of South America, Africa and much of Europe and Turkey. But photographing our native wildlife gives me the biggest thrill, although centuries of persecution by Man have resulted in our native creatures becoming more secretive than in other parts of our world. This presents a greater challenge to the photographer. In fact I would argue it is easier to photograph a Lion on the Serengeti than a Fox in your local Nature Reserve.
I try to capture something of the spirit of the subject and I'm not overly concerned with relative rarity. I do not subscribe to the "rare - interesting, common - uninteresting" ethos, although I am fully aware of the important role that wildlife photography undoubtedly brings to the wider conservation debate
In 2007 I am offering Photographic and Wildlife Holidays and Workshops here at our home and in the surrounding countryside. Details will appear shortly at my sister site www.wildaboutphotography.com
